Crossroads Festival — Roubaix

The Cross­roads Fes­ti­val was launched in 2016 to pro­mote the cur­rent music sec­tor in the Hauts-de-France region to pro­fes­sion­als from oth­er regions and coun­tries, and to set up inter-region­al and inter­na­tion­al artis­tic and pro­fes­sion­al exchanges.

Every Novem­ber in Roubaix, the fes­ti­val offers a show­case of some 30 artists, plus a pro­gram of pro­fes­sion­al meet­ings. In this con­text, Zone Franche was invit­ed to take part in a round-table dis­cus­sion.

Thursday, November 7 — 10:00–12:00

“Sup­port­ing emer­gence in a con­strained con­text : how can we fos­ter new alliances for cre­ation and dis­tri­b­u­tion?”

In a con­stant­ly evolv­ing cul­tur­al con­text, sup­port­ing emerg­ing artists has become a major chal­lenge. Eco­nom­ic con­straints and chang­ing cul­tur­al con­sump­tion pat­terns are mak­ing it increas­ing­ly dif­fi­cult for young tal­ent to make their mark on the music scene.
How can we best sup­port the emer­gence of new tal­ent and encour­age their socio-pro­fes­sion­al inte­gra­tion ? How can we cre­ate new syn­er­gies and strength­en links between the var­i­ous play­ers in the music ecosys­tem ? The aim of this meet­ing is to explore new pos­si­ble alliances between con­cert halls, fes­ti­vals and pro­duc­tion struc­tures : how can we encour­age the pool­ing of resources and skills ?
By shar­ing new ini­tia­tives and expe­ri­ences, such as the Cooprog plat­form or the shared cre­ation fund­ing pro­gram sup­port­ed by the French Min­istry of Cul­ture, the idea is also to iden­ti­fy new avenues of col­lab­o­ra­tion to devel­op joint projects.

Final­ly, we’ll be dis­cussing more sus­tain­able and inclu­sive eco­nom­ic mod­els, to guar­an­tee a sus­tain­able future for emerg­ing artists and the play­ers who sup­port them in devel­op­ing their projects.
